Opening the program, “Le Banc”, is danced to selected cello suites by J.S. Bach. It is the story of a park bench which holds various meanings for the people who use it, from a resting place to a meeting place, and more.
The second work, “Is This the Real Life” explores human interactions and connections or the lack of them in today’s hyper-connected world. “The greatest thing in life is to love and be loved in return.” We see how lost love, personal struggles, and lack of meaningful empathy can affect one’s life. The piece is set to the powerful music of Sample and Jennings’ “One Day I’ll Fly Away”, David Bowie’s “Nature Boy”, and Freddie Mercury’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
After the intermission, “Broadway on Pointe” tells the story of two stars, one rising and one setting, who find themselves at odd before befriending each other. Broadway’s most iconic show tunes drive the bold choreography filled with drama, passion, humour, romance, and a few sequins.
