Concerts Denman is putting on a rare summer show to share the wonders of Gypsy Kumbia Orchestra with everyone in the Valley. It is the only show this fine band is playing in the islands this summer, and what a treat it will be. The show is also an early one, planned so the live sets will be done in time for anyone to catch a ferry back to Vancouver Island on the 10:40, so there is no reason to miss the fun. There will be DJs before and after to keep the fun rolling so you don’t have to go home if you don’t want to:)
Montreal’s Gypsy Kumbia Orchestra is an explosion of music and dance, circus and imagination. The band is a creative chaos that fuses Afro-Colombian percussion with the brass and violin melodies of the Roma peoples of Eastern Europe. Created In 2012 by GIROVAGO productions, the band has already performed over 140 shows, including many festivals across Canada, Colombia, France, Austria, Chec Republic. GKO was voted Montréal’s best world music group in 2015 (CAMUZ survey), and earned a 2016 JUNO and ADISQ Nominations for their first album, Revuelta Danza Party. With an ever growing following, the group has arrived as one of Canada’s leading new big bands.

Their shows at La Sala Rossa are legendary, and if you got to see Lemon Bucket Orchestra play at the hall, you have a taste of the chaos and beauty that will be landing on our shores. The Speakeasy team has put on many a show with these fine folks since I moved out to our land, and they can’t stop saying enough nice things. There will be about 14 people on the stage singing, playing, dancing, and creating all sorts of merry making. We hope you can come and join the fun!
DJ’s Co-Captain and Eliazar will help build and continue the grooves before, between, and after their 2 sets of sweaty dancing fun.
