On Saturday, November 19, 2022, Concerts Denman presented the Aurora Piano Trio in the Denman Island Community Hall. Libby Yu (piano), Yuel Yawney, (violin) and Sungyong Lim (cello) are top tier musicians. both technically and artistically. They exhibited unity in approach and seemed fully aware of each other. I was impressed by how much each of them seemed to take pleasure in their individual parts. Their programme was well-crafted for our troubled time. It seemed to be telling a story of a journey, from bright and cheerful early Beethoven, to hauntingly dark wartime feelings by Shostakovich and ending with full throttle lyrical Romanticism by Mendelssohn. In other words, this concert ended with music that is balm for the soul.
